Sounds of Appalachia: Jack Hinshelwood Trio with opening act by Ashlee Watkins & Andrew Small and Friends

  • Montgomery Museum of Art & History 4 East Main Street Christiansburg, VA, 24073 United States (map)

Experience Appalachian music at the Montgomery Museum’s upcoming concert Sounds of Appalachia: Jack Hinshelwood Trio with opening act by Ashlee Watkins & Andrew Small and Friends!

Many community members are unaware of the depth of artistic talent within their own region, as well as the rich history of Appalachian music and the contemporary artists who continue these traditions. The Museum addresses this gap through Appalachian music concerts that connect past and present musical experiences, creating historical ties through sound and lyric. These programs highlight both historical context and contemporary practice, demonstrating how the region’s artistic traditions have had national and international impact while continuing to inspire the next generation of artists and musicians.

Led by Jack Hinshelwood, the winner of the Knoxville World’s Fair Guitar Championship, the Wayne Henderson Guitar Championship, and the Galax Old Fiddler’s Convention, the Jack Hinshelwood Trio presents a brilliant concert with roots in the traditional music of the Appalachians.

Ashlee Watkins & Andrew Small make music from a time when old-time, bluegrass, and country shared the same stage. Shifting between fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitars, they bring enduring classics and original songs to life with close harmony singing that has moved audiences around the world.
