Arrows Homeschool Co-op Elementary Art Diorama Project (grades 2 through 5), with five special guests from a middle school art collaboration

For this multi-week mixed media diorama project, we looked to create a tiny stage or a world inside of a box, turning a story into a three dimensional scene.  Student artists were charged to create a story scene and include an animal. The story scene could be inspired by tales or books they’ve read, their favorite places, or just their imagination. Animals could be main characters or part of the background. We explored background, middle ground, and foreground throughout the process. Box sizes were determined by the exhibit space. Students were given the choice of working as a team or independently.

Special thanks to the New River Valley Creative Reuse Center and RunAbout Sports (shoeboxes) for your materials support.
